This product is intended to be used as a portable dash mount for the nuvi series of units and the StreetPilot C5xx series.I have 2 of these, both brand new. Works very well, but the base is of a thin, fairly brittle material that doesn't appear it will withstand much upward bending of the 4 pod legs for storage before it tears . I've used one of these exact mounts, but made years ago and the underside material was much more durable. Once the bottom tears, the beads will fall out and you'll need to replace the base. But oh - Garmin *just so happens* to sell replacement bases for the mount! (minus the hook and ball joint) Truly as if they manfactured this with a built-in shortened lifespan by using low quality material for the base.The dashboard mount works well in the summer time when the heat in the car casues the suction mount to fall off of the windshield. The dashboard mount is also portable in moving it from one car to another. It can be more easily placed out of sight when car is parked in public areas where anyone may be tempted to make your Navigator their own.It does stay secure on the dashboard when driving and does not slide around. Does take up a footprint on the dash but there is always a price to pay.
The price on Amazon was better than ordering it straight from the manufacturer.
